My name is Danielle Hughs. As of January 22, 2022, my seven children, 4-month-old grandchild, and myself have been displaced for over months due to Hurricane Ida. We are now residing in a hotel in Spanish Fort, AL. Every door that I have turned to seek a rental home has been outright slammed in our faces with rejection and judgment. We are now being told that we have to vacate the hotel by tomorrow, January 23, 2022, and check in to a "FEMA approved" hotel in Louisiana, Mississippi, or Texas as per hotel management. Hotel management is stating that this is as per FEMA. However, FEMA is saying that this is in the hotel.
Every time I contact FEMA, I'm given different information by each agent basically according to their knowledgeability of that department and/or lack thereof. As of this week, I have made several phone calls to FEMA which I've been transferred to this department and that department them back to this department. Yesterday alone, I attempted and or was successful in 10 phone calls. I was placed on hold for up to 72 minutes in which I opted for a call back after 55 minutes. I have now waited two days for a call back from a supervisor of both the Transitional Sheltering Assistance Department and the Continued Rental Assistance Department.
We are literally now facing homelessness as of tomorrow. It is my hope and prayer that you or someone you may know may hear the heart of God in this and help us! Thank you for any effort made to assist my family, and may God continue to bless you!
Sincerest Blessings,
