On Thursday, October 14, 2021, Lev Yashin Villalobos was electrocuted and killed, while helping to rescue a young paraglider who had crashed into high-tension power lines in the municipality of El Cerrito, Valle del Cauca, Colombia.

 

Lev had climbed the 30-foot structure, and secured the young man with a rope, allowing him to be lowered to the rescue party below. The rescue attempt succeeded, and the young paraglider survived with injuries, expected to make a full recovery. Lev, however, died in the attempt, while his family watched on.
