Family of Jeremiah Sutton

Jeremiah Sutton was a recent graduate of Oberlin High School, where he took part in basketball, football, and weightlifting; but tragically in the early morning of May 23, 2020, Jeremiah took his own life.

I had the absolute privilege of being Jeremiah's teammate since middle school on the football team. He was always a hard worker. As a new player, he had endured the learning curve many players go through when they first join a sport, but he never quit. He grew mentally, emotionally and physically, and dedicated himself to the game of football with encouragement from family, coaches, teammates, and teachers along the way. He worked all the way up to earning his stripes in the titles of 1st Team All-Lorain County, 1st Team All LC8-Conference, 1st team Northeast Lakes All District, and LC8 Defensive Player of the Year.

Bigger than this, however, Jeremiah was, in my opinion, the most kind, genuine and closest person to perfect I had ever met. I saw him just days ago while working at my job. I had a brief conversation with him, and following he offered the rest of his gift card to me, to which I declined. This was not out of the usual for Jeremiah. Before games on Friday nights, he would offer all his food to other teammates. He would offer money to anyone that needed it. He would give anyone a conversation if he thought they needed it. He was truly an honest and caring person in every way.

The funds requested are to be paid to the family of Jeremiah, to pay for funeral expenses, as well as giving financial breathing room to the family, especially during such an economic crisis that we are met with today.

Please consider donating to Jeremiah's family, and in addition please reach out to friends and family and remind them that you care. In a situation like we are in today, isolation is an underlying addition to the pandemic that is dealing irreparable collateral damage, as we can see in the case of Jeremiah.

Thank you, and stay safe.
