Family of five lost home in fire
Donation protected
Susan Muthee, her three children, and her disabled husband, are living in a damp, unfinished basement in Lowell, Massachusetts since a fire destroyed their home on March 10. They are sharing the kitchen and bathroom of the family who live upstairs. Daughter Wangjuru 16, longs to eventually become a lawyer and works hard to keep good grades. Sons Ndungu,14, and Mwanji, 11, are just longing to be out of the basement. Mother, Susan, emigrated from near Nairobi twenty years ago and married her husband, also from Kenya, here in the U.S.. He was a long distance truck driver doing well until diabetes followed by kidney failure felled him 7 years ago. For the last two years he has endured dialysis twice a week and now cannot work. Susan is trained as a home health aide, and is the sole breadwinner, working as many shifts a week as are available. We are looking to help this family back to its feet: they need shoes, clothes and furnishings and bedding, while they continue to look for a safe, reasonable place to live.
