Husband, father, and a 20-year Veteran, 6 combat deployments, and was recently hospitalized and given an acute cancer diagnosis. I am receiving my current treatment from MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. Since my family lives closer to Austin, TX, I have to travel to meet for my outpatient care. In July, I will be receiving my stem cell transplant and will have to reside in the Houston area for at least 100 days, at least, but more if prognosis wavers. My wife will be taking FMLA to be my full-time caregiver, and will lose her income during that time. We have 3 children (11 to 15) and they would benefit from some financial assistance, to cover lodging, child care, etc (since I cannot have my children around due to my immune system needing recovery).
