Pictured above: Big Brother Dan and little sister Charity on her wedding day.
Dan Olubero has worked with the Vestergaard family for 10 years and for those of you who have been to our programs in Kenya, you have undoubtedly experienced his passion, warmth and dedication to the work we do. Dan's youngest sister Charity, also worked for our team in Kenya during our carbon for water campaigns and on an electronic medical records initiative for HIV/AIDS patients born our of our first IPC campaign called Uamazi Bora. Charity left us several years back to pursue other community work and married a little over a year ago. On December 30, Chairty gave birth to a son, Myles Elyon. Unfortunately, this past Friday morning, Charity passed away from post partum eclampsia, just over 2 weeks after her son was born. Those of us who knew and remember Charity will always think of her brightness and her smile much like her older brother! The Olubero family suffered a tragedy this week that is hard to imagine, and we have created this GoFundMe page to help the family cover the costs of raising a new baby without it's mother and to support them in their time of mourning.
This page is hosted by Tara Lundy, and I will personally deliver all funds raised to the Olubero family along with any messages and wishes to the family when I am in Kenya ahead of our campaign next month. I will also be bringing some supplies for the baby and for anyone who joins us in Kenya, please also feel free to bring your own gift or supplies. They are most in need of diapers and formula, but the smallest gestures I am sure will be appreciated. If I can say a personal word about the Oluberos - over my time at Vestergaard I have had the fortune to meet every single member of their family of 5 kids and Mom and Dad. Dan's parents have dedicated their lives and careers to the public health of people in western Kenya and Dan and his five siblings are just unimaginably kind, positive and uplifting people. I am so horribly sad for their loss and I hope you can all find it in your hearts to give whatever is possible for you to show them that we care and that Vestergaard is more than a company - we are a family.
