Caleb Hernandez, while on duty with the U.S. Marines, suffered a very serious head injury and ended up with a brain hemorrhage. Doctors placed him in an induced coma to combat swelling of his brain. As of 11/28/18 he is in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit of UCSD Medical Center in San Diego. The Marines apparently have his medical costs covered. However, his family traveled from Guatemala to be at his bedside and have incurred significant costs, much, but not all of which, have been covered by the Marines. Family expenses not covered include airfare for some of the family and future board and lodging costs once Caleb is an outpatient. His mother and sister will be in San Diego indefinitely and will continue to incur significant expenses. We expect that the fundraising goal will change as time goes on.
