After 2.5 weeks, Blaire is now off the ECMO machine AND the ventilator. She is still in the Gold Coast hospital and has a long road ahead in her recovery but we are so glad to have her back, we definitely all missed that firecracker personality! We thank you all for your donations, kind words and support. She definitely had the most amazing care team and we owe them so much for keeping Blaire safe and stable. This GoFundMe and helped Blaire’s family SO much and has given them the breathing room to allow them to focus on Blaire and now, her recovery. We can’t wait to have her home with us. Thank you all so much.

Hi, my name is Shanay and I am asking for help for my best friend who is currently on life support in the ICU on the Gold Coast. This GoFundMe is to raise funds to help take some financial pressure off her family as they navigate the next few weeks and beyond. I would appreciate it if you took a few minutes to read her story and please remember, anything helps.
Blaire and Mathew welcomed their first baby girl on Saturday 22nd April in Gladstone Hospital. Blaire was battling Influenza A and was in hospital Friday night receiving fluids and antibiotics when she went into labour at 41 weeks pregnant. After a long labour, Eloise was born Saturday night via emergency C-Section. Mum and Bub were doing amazing and the young family were so in love.
On Sunday, family and friends went to the hospital to meet the new addition. Blaire was looking amazing, they had her up and moving around and she seemed to be getting better. Doctors were happy and hoping to have her home by Tuesday afternoon.
Monday afternoon, Mathew called me with the news that Blaire was being moved to the High Dependency unit on high-flow oxygen as she couldn't breathe properly on her own. It was a very scary time but after a few hours, she was able to speak full sentences and we were all hopeful she would be coming home over the next few days. Eloise was a picture of health and wasn't allowed to be with Blaire, so they discharged her. A moment Blaire and Mat were so excited for, was now a moment of sadness as Mat took their baby girl home without her mum.
Just a few short hours later, we got the call that Blaire had taken a turn for the worst and was being transferred to Rockhampton with a breathing tube. She had Pneumonia pretty bad in both lungs and needed more than the high flow oxygen. Blaire's sister and her partner came in from Bilo to be there with Mat. By morning, we were told she was being transferred to Gold Coast hospital on life support. Specialists were flying from all over the country to try and help her. Blaire's parents packed up their caravan and searched everywhere until they finally found a place with accommodation available for them to stay so they could be with their daughter.
As of today (Wednesday), Blaire remains on life support and has a machine removing the blood from her body, reoxygenating it and then pumping it back into her bloodstream. This is so her lungs can get the rest they need. Both of her lungs are completely full of fluid and are getting drained 3 times a day. All we can do now is wait. Blaire's parents will be staying down there for as long as needed to be with her but at this stage it's looking like it could be more than a month. Her sister and her family will be staying with Mat to give him the support he also needs as a first time dad with a newborn at home.
We ask for any help you can give to help take the financial stress of travelling, accomodation, any medical, newborn and daily expenses as they all focus on Blaire and her health. We also ask you to keep her in your thoughts during this time. Thank you.
