Family Matriarch Loses Her Fight With Cancer
Donativo protegido
We are opening this campaign for the family of our cousin Leselie Ann “Annie” Hamilton, who lost her fight with cancer on Sunday, May 24, 2020.
Annie was the glue that held her family together. No matter what obstacles she faced, she always made sure her family was taken care of. In the past decade, the obstacles kept piling up. In 2010, she began her fight with breast cancer, and with chemotherapy it went into remission. Then in 2012, she had a cancer recurrence, and this time she fought a more aggressive cancer. Despite going through chemotherapy again, with its harrowing affects, and having to deal with mounting medical bills, Annie continued to work and take care of her family. Then more tragedy struck – in 2018 the townhouse they rented caught on fire and much was destroyed. The family salvaged what they could and moved into a small apartment.
Annie worked at a hospital, and a flicker of light appeared as a better job opportunity presented itself at another hospital. After interviewing, she was so sure she was going to be hired that she left her job, hoping to quickly transition to the new position. However, the new job fell through. She tried to find another comparable position, but unable to do so, she took a job at Walmart. Unfortunately, with the loss of her job at the hospital, she no longer had life insurance. The chemotherapy was taking a toll on her, and she was forced to work part time. Her dream to one day buy a home for her family slipped away.
The cancer continued to spread rapidly through her body. It spread to her liver, lungs and stomach, but Annie held strong. Of her three children, she was especially worried about her youngest son, who has autism and would never be able to live independently. But this past Sunday, Annie lost her fight with cancer. Annie – with her infectious smile, loving and caring nature, a woman filled with a wicked sense of humor that would leave you in tears! – went peacefully in her sleep. She had such a love for life! We know she did not want to leave us – her family, her friends, this world in which she had struggled yet built a beautiful family – but she was in deep pain, had fought the good fight, and her body was tired. Left behind are two sons, a daughter, and her loving husband Joel, who struggled so hard alongside her every step of the way. Joel battled with his own disability and health issues while managing to take extra loving care of Annie, especially during the last few months of her life when she could no longer properly care for herself. He was not only her husband but her rock, her best friend and her caregiver.
We, her family, are asking for your contribution to assist with funeral services for Annie and to help Joel with any medical bills and financial burdens he now faces. We know these are especially hard times for everyone, but we hope, if you are able, you can contribute to our goal – any amount would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Appreciatively,
