Hi, my name is Linda and husband Larry and we are fundraising for our daughter's family. They have no knowledge of us doing this for them but unfortunately, it is necessary.

Our daughter’s beautiful family needs your help. They are stuck in a gut-wrenching, devastating reality that has altered their lives forever and only seems to get worse. At minimum, their story will help you keep your family and loved ones safer. At best, you will listen to your heart, and help them get back on their feet and give their children a chance to regain the childhood that has been stolen from them for several years ... and continues, with no end in sight.

Sandi is my daughter, the middle of my three children. She married Dave, an offshore construction project manager and they had Logan, now 15, and Lyla, now 12. After living in Pearland, TX for a few years in their first house, they moved to Katy, TX and moved into a beautiful home in Katy, TX. Both Logan and Lyla were growing up like regular kids, making friends, and loving their wonderful childhood home. Dave’s career was advancing with a major oil and gas company, and Sandi was a devoted mom, volunteering at Logan and Lyla’s school and busily making their house a “forever home”.

Then in 2019, things changed. Sandi’s health took a turn, with unexplainable illnesses. Lyla had a constant runny nose and her stomach hurt. Logan’s mood would change in an instant, and he struggled to focus in school. Dave’s constant energy was missing, and never seemed to get a good night’s sleep. In early 2020, the “forever home” had the first remediation for mold after Dave found it under the kitchen sink. The experts the family hired to assess and remediate the small area said it was all gone. But the symptoms remained, so all four family members spent countless hours and money going to different specialists for their own illnesses.

Later in 2020, while COVID was raging across America, more mold was discovered after it was detected in Logan’s brain. This time the mold was found this time in the HVAC system. And finally, in mid-2021, a huge growth of “black mold” (otherwise known as Stachybotrys chartarum) was found by a plumbing contractor inside some walls in the house, setting off a third, much larger mold remediation. Both times the mold specialists (who were recommended by the family’s homeowner’s insurance agent) declared the house clear of mold after the family paid for the remediations. But symptoms either remained or got worse, and the family’s illnesses began to control their lives……this doctor’s appointment for that issue, this medicine for this issue, behavioral therapy for other diagnoses.

Finally, only after God led the family to a pediatric neurologist (who is a true angel on earth) did they realize they had to completely move away from their house. After specialized testing results came back showing extremely high levels of exposures to several types of dangerous mold and other toxins in January 2022, Dave and Sandi made the only choice they could as parents…… for their health of Logan and Lyla, they had to leave their home of over 10 years. So, 2 days after receiving the lab results, the six (including their dog and cat!) family members left their dream home for good.

Since that heartbreaking decision January 2022, the family has been forced to live in over a dozen hotels, motels, and short-term rental homes while still getting the kids to school, meeting work demands, trying to understand what to do with the home they own, AND trying to rid their bodies of the environmental toxins that should have been removed years ago. Because after such a long exposure at their house, they had be sure that their living spaces are clear of mold so their bodies can detox and heal.

Financially, this has drained them. Dave, like many others, was laid off in early 2021 due to the energy market crumbling and downsizing and hasn’t been able to secure employment with benefits, so they are going through all of this without medical insurance. They’ve paid for “mold specialists” who were not truthful nor competent, three remediations that may have only made their house more toxic, and tens of thousands of dollars on additional housing costs (on top of their mortgage). TWICE they had to throw away almost all of their clothes and furniture due to the exposures (their long-term housing lease was recently cancelled after 5 months because mold was found all over that home!) and have even had to sell their vehicles because the mold in the house(s) was found in their cars. What savings and retirement funds they had are gone. Their homeowner’s insurance policy denied every claim they’ve ever submitted.

The children have had to change schools, lost their childhood friends, lost all of their clothes and most of their belongings. Emotionally, they have lost their youthful optimism…..and lost any identity they had.

This family NEEDS YOUR HELP. My friends and family were so generous the first time I made an appeal for help when they initially had to leave their home. Thank you for that. Here I am again, asking for help … whatever you can donate to help them to be able to have the money to find a place to stay until they can find a home that is suitable and safe … it would mean so much. The family needs financial assistance to cover the expensive cost of medication required to detox their bodies and to get into a stable, safe home. Sandi and Dave are currently looking ... again ... for a long-term rental home to give them some stability so they can all move forward, repairing the damage and injustice they have experienced. They need money so they can move forward. Any offer will be graciously accepted.
