So our Dad is in ICU at UCLA, and has been for 6 days now. He was battling lung cancer but a week after his last (7th) chemo treatment he contracted influenza A and was given Tamiflu and sent home.   The flu turned into pneumonia and we got him to an emergency room on Saturday night where they immediately initiated a "code sepsis" and transferred him by ambulance to UCLA Santa Monica, upon arriving in the ambulance he went into A Fib and then we found out later also had a heart attack.  He's been on a machine that breathes for him, that is one step down from a life support venilator.   He has been making some progress and battling the infections despite the damage done to his heart and lungs.    All of his 5  kids have been at his bedside for the last 6 days, all of us are out here from Utah except one sibling who is from Simi Valley. Many of his grandkids are also out here with him from out of state.   We have spent a lot of money on travel to get here.  Our hotel costs for the last 6 nights has avergaged $150-$230 a night  in the area.  Several of us have rental cars for transportation. The hospital parking costs run $20 per day and we have about 5 vehicles here ($100 per day in parking).  The family's daily expenses for JUST hotel rooms, rental cars, and  parking have left us all in a financial bind.  We know Dad needs us here for at least one more week.  We are trying to rent an airbnb house  near the hospital so we can have a kitchen, can do laundry, etc.  and maybe turn in the rental cars and use Uber (or get close enough to the hospital to walk).  We have been taking shifts overnight so some can sleep and some can be here through the night with him.  Usually someone stays till 2:00am, someone comes in at 5:00 am, we need a central place where we can take turns getting sleep, leave all our stuff, maybe have some food, and be able to do laundry.  We have found one possible place to stay, a house that will accomodate 6 of us, that runs about $300-$350 per night, we would like to get it for one week.  This will cost up to $2500.  We also need funds for parking, Uber, maybe ONE rental car, etc. etc.    Anything you can donate would be GREATLY appreciated and will go towards all the expenses ahead for us to stay with our Dad for one more week.  PLEASE HELP US IF YOU CAN.  No one here wants to leave his bedside.   He is an amazing man.  The chief of ICU summed it up best when she told us our Dad must be incredibly kind, she said "I can tell how kind my patient is based on how much of his family shows up at his bedside when he's in ICU, this tells me your Dad is incredibly kind".    She has no idea.
