On March 16th, 2020, Family Karate Center in Whitinsville, MA was forced to close their doors for the first time in 38 years other than an annual weeks vacation. Our first priority was the health and safety of our loyal students. Of course a week later, non essential businesses were mandated to shut down and we remained that way until Governor Baker allowed us to reopen on June 8th. We were happy to do our part to help flatten the curve and keep our students safe. Unfortunately that came at a great cost to our business. Despite doing everything in our power to keep our students training and converting our entire program into an online format ready to go on the first day of our shutdown, the Covid-19 pandemic has devastated our small business, like so many others.
We have an amazing karate family of students who are loyal and dedicated and many tried so hard to make the online training work, but it was just not feasible for a large portion of our base. On top of that many of our incredible families suffered their own financial loss due to this crisis and were simply unable to afford to continue to pay their tuition. We are so thankful for our members who are able to support us, and without them we would not stand a chance to make it through this! We have had the opportunity to watch many of you grow from preschoolers to teenagers and even adults and it warms our heart to see your true loyalty.
We are asking for help at this time to be able to pay the bills through this crisis and keep our doors opened. Unfortunately the class size limitations put forth by governor Baker, and what is necessary to teach in-person lessons in a safe way right now, restrict our ability to rebuild at the moment to a point that is sustainable for the business. We are all working without a paycheck, and happily doing so harder than we ever have before but unfortunately due to the circumstances, that can only take us so far.
June 28th marks our 38th year anniversary serving the Blackstone Valley and in that time we have never asked for help. We are asking for help now from our amazing community that has supported us for nearly 4 decades. We believe with a little help, we can ride out this storm and have a chance to rebuild when Covid is in a better place.
