Family in Sri Lanka affected by floods

Introduction

Hello, my name is David Ashall from the UK and I am endeavouring to raise funds to help a family I know personally in Haritha Uyana, Sri Lanka.

Update:

Thank you so much to all that have contributed and sent their good wishes. It is very much appreciated.

I set up the fund with the intention of meeting a target of £500. With the help of you (and AI that kept moving the target) all we have hit £1000.

Should anyone in the future wish to contribute just let me know and I will find a way.

This photograph taken many years ago with Rilwan as a young boy with his father. All our donations will definitely help them in the future. Thank you all again

Background:

Their home has been severely affected by the recent floods and landslides as a result of the Cyclonic Storm Ditwah on 27 November 2025.

The water level in their house reached up to 12 ft with the whole house being significantly damaged including the kitchen and toilet / bathroom. Sadly, a considerable amount of their belongings, including clothes, electrical appliances etc have either been damaged (beyond safety repair) s or have been lost.

The family is made up of Mrs Fathima Dilusha a housewife & Mr Mohamed Riswan a squash coach at St Joseph College in Colombo. They have stayed positive over the last few weeks and I have been in touch with them. They are putting on a brave face for their son, Mohamed Rilwan whom is an 18 year old student, and represents the Sri Lankan junior nationals squash team. He, like his parents has lost all his personal belongings and clothes, shoes, etc plus all his squash equipment eg rackets, bags, sport shoes, eye guards, and clothes.

I have visited Sri Lanka many times over the years and have coached Rilwan at squash on a regular basis. I want to raise funds to help the family get back on their feet ie replace cloths and equipment and also enable Rilwan to start playing again which will undoubtedly help his and his family’s well being. As a family they have little income so any contribution would be greatly appreciated.

My aim is to try and get Rilwan back playing squash regularly at a high level and see him representing his country in international championships
