The heavy winds from last night's storm, on January 16th, blew over a massive Pine tree onto my family's house--completely caving in their roof. In a straight miracle, my brother in law and the four children (Azaria 12, Araelia 11, Donovan 7, and Winter 5) were unharmed. He had to dig out with his bare hands his youngest, Winter, as she screamed from underneath the caved-in roof and tree which fell-in directly on top of her. He threw out his back and tore up his hands doing so. Winter was somehow perfectly contained underneath the ceiling fan, which miraculously shielded her from being crushed. Though they are safe, they are now homeless, unable to enter their house, and left with nothing but the clothes on their backs; and until insurance comes through they will remain so. This is a family that lives paycheck to paycheck--the amount of food lost in their kitchen is a hard immediate hit even. So I am asking for donations to get them through this impossibly difficult moment. There is so much chaos right now, it is hard to know what exactly they will need in the coming days but the immediate needs are food, warm clothing, replacing lost phone, and securing a new place to stay. They have been through so much this past year already and to lose their home on top of everything is a tragedy. Please help with what you can and I will see that all funds make it to my brother and the children.
Update: They were finally able to get into a hotel with some help from immediate family (supposedly the insurance company will reimburse us, let us hope so). They are still in need of food, clothes, toiletries, basic necessities, and replacing their family phone. Their insurance adjuster will not be able to come to look at the property to sort out their claim until next week.
