If you are reading this and do not know me, I am a safety manager for a trucking company. In the many years I have been doing this job, I have not seen anything as awful as this. One of my drivers was hit by another flatbed semi-truck on the freeway. He was side-swiped, which caused the flatbed to completely embed itself into the cab and trailer of my driver. When this occurred, my driver's left foot was completely severed. He also received many other injuries such as broken ribs and many other injuries that I have not been able to find out about yet as I am still waiting to hear from the social worker at the hospital. He had to be extracted from the cab by emergency response. This accident occurred on Friday, April 21st. Since then he has had surgery for the amputation completion of his foot and will be needing tremendous amounts of rehab once healed. His hometown is in the state of Mississippi but because of where the accident occurred he is stuck in Pennsylvania in the hospital. I have no idea how long it will take for him to get to a point where he will be able to return home. I do know that he is the sole provider for his family and his life is forever changed. I can't even imagine the struggles that lie ahead physically, emotionally and financially.
