I'm running this fundraiser on behalf of one of my dearest friends and comrades, who is currently facing immediate eviction in Austin, Texas, with almost no social support—whether through state programs or from family. In fact, she is the sole supporter of her family, who depend on her completely for all their needs. Here is what she has written about her situation:
Comrades and friends,
I'm reaching out to this community because I'm out of options and facing eviction. I'm a single parent to a toddler daughter, and I also support my undocumented mother. We're about to lose our home.
What happened: I recently lost my job and fell behind on rent. I owe $3,400 for this month and next, and my landlord will post a notice to vacate on November 7th. I've been hustling with gig work and doing everything I can, but I'm not going to make it in time on my own.
Why I can't access traditional help: Due to my immigration status, I'm ineligible for SNAP, housing assistance, and most government safety nets here in Texas. My mother is undocumented, which further limits our options. The system wasn't built for families like ours—which is exactly why mutual aid and community solidarity matter.
What I'm doing: I'm not sitting idle. I've been selling belongings, applying for every community assistance program available, and looking for stable employment. I'm fighting hard to keep us housed, but I need help bridging this gap.
What we need: $6,800 to prevent eviction and keep my daughter and mother from becoming homeless. Every dollar helps—even $5 or $10 makes a difference. If you can't donate, sharing this with your networks means everything.
Why mutual aid matters: The capitalist system failed us—I worked hard, paid my bills, and one job loss put us on the street. But we take care of each other. No one should face homelessness, especially not children. Housing is a human right.
I know many of you are also struggling under this system. If you can't give financially, I completely understand. Sharing this, offering emotional support, or keeping us in your thoughts helps more than you know.
In solidarity and with deep gratitude, Svetlana
P.S. - Once I'm back on my feet, I'm committed to paying this forward to others in our community who need help.
