Family in Crisis After Work Injury & Medical Hardship

For those who don’t know, We are a family of 5... 2 adults and 3 kids. My husband is a truck driver and we have been relying solely on his income. He has been doing everything he can to keep up with the bills but we are still falling short as I have been laid up.

February 16,2025… the day that changed everything. Being that I work in a hospital I can’t get into much detail because the story involves a patient. However long story short, I was injured at work leading to the requirement of abdominal surgery on May 21, 2025. Now, let me tell you how frustrating and stressful the journey has been ever since… if something could go wrong in this process, believe me… it has! Work Comp is trying to deny my claim(funny since it happened at work) so that is in the appeal process with a court date in August, Light duty options were a battle almost every shift I have worked after the injury (odd right, since companies actually save money on Work comp insurance by offering light duty to employees injured on the job), and then the paperwork. The paperwork has been messed up since the beginning, HR filed it wrong to begin with, even though I explained from the beginning that I wanted it filed under work comp, they lost my accommodation paperwork, communication between departments has been absolutely horrendous and HR has stopped responding to me, employee health doesn’t know what to do, and staffing is just as lost and confused as I am. Oh and lets not forget the 2 weeks where my family was left absolutely devastated and terrified because one of the Doctor offices mixed my information up with another patient and sent in a referal to a Cancer institute and then nobody could give me answers as to why so I had to got through a bunch of unnecessary medical tests for that to make sure I was infact ok.

With that, I have now been completely out of work since May 3rd. And here we are on June 3rd and my paid leave still hasn’t been approved…Bills are going unpaid, kids are being affected due to my physical and financial constraints, it’s causing stress and anxiety with the whole family, I fear daily that we are going to be homeless rather soon.

If anyone is able to help our family stay afloat we would be forever grateful. I try to keep spirits high and believe all will work out but , it’s not easy especially when I try my best to hide my struggles from those around me
