Family Homeless After Flood in Sumas
Donation protected
I am Susan Banks and I live in Massillon, Ohio. My daughter, Lisa Garrison and her family are now homeless after flood waters completely destroyed everything they own including their car. They live in Sumas in northern Washington state. On Monday, November 17, 2021 after nearly 6 inches of rain fell in the area causing widespread flooding. The cause of the flood is called an "atmospheric river," a huge plume of moisture over the region caused by climate change.
"Officials in the small city of Sumas, Washington, near the Canada border called the flooding devastating and said on Facebook Tuesday that an estimated 75% of the homes there had water damage. Hundreds of people were evacuated,"
My daughter and her family are safe and dry in a hotel in Bellingham right now, but they will have to start all over from scratch as the water was at least 4 feet high in their apartment and destroyed all their furniture, appliances, clothes, and possessions. Lisa, wife Desiree and daughter Madalyn are sharing one pair of shoes so they can go outside.
Please help! Even a small amount of money will go a long way to help them restart.
Lisa is no stranger to tragedy, having had invasive brain tumor surgery in 2013. She is left with a seizure disorder that is exacerbated by stress. This is major stress in her life now!
