Family Home Destroyed by Flooding
Donation protected
Please help in supporting the Maxwell family after losing their home to a flood.
During the evening of June 22nd this family, which includes Brittany, Carl, son Boston & daughter Mara, had left the home only to return a few hours later to total devastation.
Due to unforeseen events a pipe burst on the second floor, which caused unimaginable flooding throughout the entirety of their home.
The water travelled through all vent systems, floors, walls, etc, & was even pouring like a waterfall out of the second story through the siding, flooding the yard.
This caused the ceilings and walls to cave in, which has now also tested positive for asbestos.
Everything they own has been severely damaged or now contaminated. This includes irreplaceable sentimental items, electronics, food, clothing, furniture, even personal care items like toothbrushes and medications.
Luckily they were able to rescue their pets, although some were unfortunately hurt by the time they found them.
Brittany runs a well-established home daycare, & is well known in the community for her reputation with families and children. Unfortunately, she can no longer work from her home, & all of her daycare equipment was lost to the flood. She has had to shut down her business and let all families out of contracts as summer is very near for those who needed full-time childcare.
Insurance is not going to be covering her lost wages, which are a big part of this family's income, & they have only been given a months' worth of money to live on for the next 3-6 months.
Also, due to a technicality, they may or may not be covered for the home to be rebuilt and will not be covered for the massive upcoming water bill and other bills they will receive.
Their home is deemed uninhabitable, and they cannot risk ever returning until everything is remediated and rebuilt, as Carl is immunocompromised due to previous cancer treatments.
As we can all imagine this is utterly devastating as this amazing family, who are very involved in the Whitehills & Emily Carr communities in London, have lost everything overnight, and are now homeless with no income and very little personal items to be salvaged.
Please help us to unify around this great little family and contribute whatever we can to help them in the interim to rebuild their life as best as possible.
Thank you in advance <3
