There's been much excitement to see our home values increase and, in some cases, sky-rocket in value, but I found we need to be paying closer attention to the amount our homes are now insured for. On the day of the fire, we left with only the clothes on our back. We then found out from our insurance company that due to material shortages, higher costs due to replacement, labor and labor shortages, etc., we can not replace our home to its original construction.

Also, make sure your contents are keeping pace with inflation for FULL replacement value.
