Family hit with 3rd flood in 13 months
On August 23, a flash flood hit my brother’s St. George residence. Sewage lines were not prepared for the massive amounts of water that the flood brought into the streets and the city failed to reroute the water resulting in multiple homes with basements flooding with sewage. My heart broke last night as I watched in real time as the water flooded into their home.
This flood happens to be the Meadows‘s third flood in 13 months. Their family room, office, bathroom, closets and my 3 nieces' bedroom/playroom was destroyed. Recent months of repair and renovations from their most recent flood were lost as their 1100 sq ft basement living space was filled with 6”+of sewer water. Insurance will not cover this and the City is not taking any responsibility.
My brother and sister in law and these 3 sweet girls lost a lot last night. Practically every children’s toy, book, piece of clothing and their beds were in the room. All the furniture was destroyed along with many important family memorabilia items. Sadly this is only the beginning as the looming repairs feel unattainable and devastating. My twin nieces just turned 5 this week and just started kindergarten. My oldest niece is 9 and just started 4th grade. In addition to repairing their home they will need to start from scratch on almost everything ‘kid related” all during the first week of school.
