Memorial Fund for John Weinstein
Donation protected
On June 5 of 2018 my dad, John, was given a Stage 4 Metastatic Pancreatic Cancer diagnosis. Standing together, the day after my parents' 41st wedding anniversary, our family was given the news that the nature of his disease was advanced and inoperable, and we should pursue treatment as a means for extension of life with no other expectations. The four of us cried, held each other, and then bucked up as a family to support one another through what was sure to be a difficult season in the Weinstein story. We could have never predicted the coming months and both the blessings and trials that they would bring.
Fast forward to early 2019, and we are standing on ground we never could have imagined on that day seven months ago. Dad has responded to chemotherapy treatment in a very rare fashion. This positive response led Mom and Dad to pursue the possibility of a groundbreaking program at The Mayo Clinic that has seen great results with Stage 4 patients utilizing special treatment regimens and, eventually, surgery. I am creating this campaign as a result of the ridiculously overwhelming blessing of Dad’s progress within this program.
In the coming months, Dad and I will be traveling three times, for several weeks total, to Rochester, MN for various treatments at the world leading Mayo Clinic. Dad has already visited once for tests and treatment planning, and now we are ready to start the good stuff! The first week-long trip is on February 17, 2019, and a following treatment-centered trip will be scheduled based on recovery and progress. The final and longest trip will be for surgery, and it will be for 2-3 weeks depending on doctors' orders.
After researching medical expenses, travel, accommodations, transportation, and basic needs for this time, I've realized that we are looking down the barrel at several thousand dollars to be able to accomplish these trips. My hope is to to alleviate a small bit of this financial burden for my parents through this donation campaign. Whether we raise $10 or $10,000, every penny will go toward making this process a little bit easier for my parents, both financially and logistically.
If you know my dad, you know that he has given so much of his life serving others. I grew up watching him give freely of his time, his intellect, and his wallet to help meet the needs of folks around him. My parents actively lived the principles of unconditional kindness and generosity throughout our whole family life, and I am hoping for them to experience a little of that through this roller coaster ride.
Thank you all for the prayers, letters, cards, and kind words you've all shared up to this time. They are working! Our family appreciates any further gifts you're able to share to help alleviate some of the stresses that come along with this crazy miracle.
