family dog needs surgery or may die

KC is one of our family dogs. My wife saw a photo of her on Facebook. The people said he was a stray. My wife called me excited that the dog had an identical paw nail marking as our other dog. She wanted to see if the dog already had an owner. She called the person and they said they planned to drop him off at the pound. We asked if we could take the dog. When we picked him up, he was extremely thin and very frightened. We took him to PetSmart and requested ID scan to see if he was lost. We also asked the vet for a check-up before bringing him home. Everything was fine except he had a mix of male and female parts. We thought he was more male so we named him King Cole. Weeks later we scheduled a neuter or spay depending on results. The vet said he had mostly female anatomy. We abbreviated the name to KC and have had her for over three years. Our other dog became best friends with KC. When people see them, they think they are siblings. They are close. If you have an Instagram account, she and our other dog have their own page. What's going on? Recently, KC has been down and lethargic. After a few days of watching her skip meals, dry heave and sleeping all day from lethargy, we think something else is wrong. We took her to Banfield hospital. The vet performed x-rays and blood tests. He says it appears she has multiple infections but he thinks an exploratory surgery should be performed to see if she has something caught in her stomach. He gave her an IV for a few hours to help her gain hydration. We have not received results from the test but will update when it is available.

She is a good dog and does not chew on anything except her dog toys. We cannot figure out what is going on. She is an indoor dog but plays outside daily when weather permits. We have a fenced yard and our yard doesn't have exotic plants or any other thing that could hurt her. The vet told us the surgery may cost a little over $2200. He says the cost depends on what they have to do. We love our dogs and my wife especially cannot lose either one of them. We have no additional income besides my paycheck to paycheck job. My wife was laid off from her job. We filed bankruptcy. My wife has major depression disorder with autoimmune disease. We are not sure if my wife will be able to work again. The dogs are the only company she keeps during the day while I work. Will you please help our dog? I know I will somehow get us back on our feet again and when I do I will be paying it forward.
