Family business destroyed by Hurricane Ida
Hi my name is Victoria and my seven siblings and I are first generation Americans. We (along with cousins) have lived in the Lower Merion School District for over 20+ years, a location outside of Philadelphia. We appreciate what this community has to offer and have met great friends and neighbors along the way. That being said, on September 2nd, my father's business in Manayunk (Whole House Fine Furniture) was completely flooded from hurricane Ida. What normally was a 15 minute drive over became twice, if not three times as long due to the road closures and damages. Among finally arriving, he realized part of his heart was gone. The water was higher than 4 feet tall and tens of thousands of dollars of furniture was floating on water.
For those who don't know my father, he and his two brothers came from Hong Kong years ago and attended the University of Pennsylvania to open their own business. They worked through discrimination, a language barrier, even a pandemic to support our family financially. They have served thousands of Lower Merion community friends as well as those from neighboring cities. This business has been a significant part of our lives, physically and emotionally, since the day we were born. My siblings and I have fond memories of helping out during summer months and doing anything to help his business stay afloat during tough winter months and strong competitors.
In addition, being as strong willed and stubbornly independent as he is, he unfortunately does not have insurance to cover any losses. Between having a stroke in 2019 and never giving up, my father has always taken everything into his own hands. He lives by fighting to the end and I have trust that he won't give up now. He has always been my greatest supporter and now is the time to be his.
Thank you for joining me in supporting my family during these harsh times. We are extremely shocked and disheartened by the damage but hope to push forward in the near future. We truly appreciate every donation as nothing is too little or too small. For those who cannot donate, please share this link. Thank you for reading our story.
