Rebuild in Wright Town, Newell after Hurricane Beryl

Hi, my name is Dayna! The community I once grew up in is slowly trying to put the pieces back together following the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl. On July 3rd, 2024, Jamaica, and more specifically, its third largest parish, St. Elizabeth was hit with a category 4 hurricane. As a result of the impact caused by Hurricane Beryl, majority of homes in Wright Town, Newell have been devastatingly destroyed.

Many of the homes have been destroyed leaving the residence in the lane without roofs and water damages inside their homes. Extensive damages have left the members of Wright Town without beds to sleep on and storage spaces such as dressers to put their personal items in. The residence have been informed by authorities that there will be limited to no access to running water and electricity for approximately three months, leaving them in a state of fear, worry, and panic. It has been almost one week and many people overseas still have not heard any news from their loved ones in Jamaica as they are unable to charge their devices due to the power outages.

The community would like to purchase portable gas generators to help residences combat having no electricity, while they wait for the power to be restored. These generators can also be used for future emergencies. Residence whose homes have been destroyed are seeking any assistance in rebuilding their roofs. The community currently has no access to water and providing funds for this purpose will help purchase clean drinking water.

Monetary donations of any kind are graciously appreciated and accepted as the residence of Wright Town have been shaken up by this unfortunate natural disaster.
