Falling, Healing, and MBH Getting Back Up Again ❤️

Dear friends, family, and community,
As a lot of you know, I recently got into a CitiBike accident that left me with a broken clavicle and needing surgery in order to fix it. While I’m grateful to currently have medical insurance through Actors Equity, it will be running out soon, and I’ll still need ongoing physical therapy and help with basic expenses as I recover. Even with insurance, the surgery came with a high deductible, and the copays for physical therapy and follow-up care are already adding up.
Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a go-getter. Just a few days after breaking my bone, I showed up to a callback for a show — even though I was in excruciating pain — because I love what I do and always want to give my best, no matter what. I’m used to juggling acting work with side jobs like babysitting and vocal coaching. Many of my jobs require a lot of physical activity — from playing with young kids to picking them up and changing diapers — which right now is impossible and would set my recovery back.
Right now, I’m still in pain, and even though it looks like I’m on an upward trajectory, recovery is slow and challenging. I’m really praying for a smooth and strong recovery, but I also know I need to give my body time to heal — something that doesn’t come easily to me. Slowing down has never been my strong suit, and asking for help is even harder.
Because my injuries have made it impossible to work — both in my acting career and in my day-to-day jobs — I’m facing several months with no income while medical bills continue to come in. I’m asking for help to cover out-of-pocket medical costs, physical therapy, and everyday living expenses like rent and meals (also can’t really cook at the moment) while I heal and work toward getting back on my feet, returning to daily life, and pursuing work again. Between months of lost income, out-of-pocket medical costs, and the approaching loss of my insurance, the financial strain is much larger than I originally anticipated.
Giving back has always been important to me. As many of you know, I recently raised over $2,000 for the Alzheimer’s charity Caring Kind by running a half marathon, and I’ve always tried to support causes and people in need whenever I can. It’s uncomfortable for me to ask for help — it’s not something that comes naturally — but I’m reminding myself that it’s okay to lean on community when you need it. I know this situation could have been much worse, and I’m grateful for that every day. Still, this injury has created a real financial hardship that I can’t navigate alone.
If you’re able to contribute — no matter the amount — or even just share this campaign, it would mean the world to me. I know so many of us, especially in the arts, are facing tough times, so please only give if you can. Every bit helps and brings me closer to recovery and independence.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness, generosity, and encouragement. Your support truly gives me strength during this challenging time.
With so much gratitude,
Michelle
