Hi everyone, on 11/4/2021 Robert Mattison, my ex son-in-law reached out to me and asked me if I’d travel to Vermont to get his son and take him back to Savannah, Georgia to raise him. I didn’t realize Robert, age 36, was struggling and in a truly dark place but he was and he took his life in a VA hospital parking lot, a broken system who tremendously failed him. This day was also my grandson’s 12th birthday.
I’ve driven 19 hours to get to my grandson who is beyond devastated, as is Robert’s mother, sister, brother, aunt, cousins, family and friends. We are trying to grasp this and it is total devastation for us all.
On top of this, we’ve found with the exception of the small amount he may receive from the VA, there’s no burial insurance, nothing to cover the costs of his funeral expenses.
The family will begin preparations for his burial this weekend. I feel so compelled to help them and also to help my grandson bury his daddy so I’m here beseeching you to please if you can spare even a dollar to help this family, it will be so greatly appreciated.
