D-Day Dodgers Foundation - Non Profit
Donation protected
During WW2, a group of soldiers were called the D-Day Dodgers. They were spearheaded the liberation of Europe by landing in Sicily and mainland Italy. The men who fought and the women who supported the troops (like the nurses) were called D-Day Dodgers by an member of British Parliament. Apparently the fighting on the Normandy shores were from greater prestige.
But those we were in Italy weren't dodging anything. They fought hard, under horrific circumstances and opened a front to keep pressure on the enemy. Many lost their lives on Italian soil. The cemeteries in the Mediterranean remind us of the hard fighting and heavy cost.
This is a partly forgotten war. And we want to change that. We started the D-Day Dodgers Foundation, based in The Netherlands, but with the focus on Italy. In 2021 we started our first project called Faces of Agira, or Volti di Agira, where we placed 350 pictures of fallen soldiers on Agira Canadian War Cemetery.
There are 490 soldiers buried there. In 2023 it will be 80 years after the invasion of Sicily and our goal is to find all the pictures. We are getting closer every day. When I am writing this, we already found 430. All pictures will be printed and placed on a stainless steel tripod. This way the pictures can be used over and over again for years to come.
The gofundme we start now is for this project. But know we won't stop when this project is done. We will move on to find pictures of soldiers on the other cemeteries too!
Please help us remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom!
Note: the foundation is an all volunteer organization. All the money goes directly to the projects. We are a non-profit organization.
