Fall Migration Birdathon in Honor of Nick Tepper
Tax deductible
Nick was in a major car accident in early June while working a wildlife biologist job in Kansas. Nick suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and is currently at Spaulding Hospital for rehabilitation receiving world-class medical care.
As he works hard to recover we’ve all been thinking of ways that we can support him. A few of his friends in the Birding Community have thought up a very quintessentially ‘Nick’ way of doing so. Over the weekend of September 17-18 we will host a birdathon to raise funds for one of Nick’s all time favorite places on this earth, the Assabet Wildlife Refuge. (For those that don’t know what a birdathon is, here is Nick’s
explanation from his last birdathon: “Sponsors wager $0.50-$2.00 per species and I set out to find as many species as I can in 24hrs. I drink dangerous amounts of coffee, sleep becomes a fleeting memory, and I inevitably fall into a sinkhole in a swamp.”) Nick’s passion as an environmental steward is known far and wide so we hope to do him justice by gathering one hell of a bird list while helping to preserve a wildlife refuge that’s very dear to his heart.
If you’re interested in donating in Nick’s honor please access the link below or shoot me a message if you’re interested in donating a rate per bird species. If you’re interested in getting in on the birding that weekend, share your ebird checklist with the username “birdingfornick” and your species will be added to a communal species list that we can read to Nick! Let me know if you have any questions but otherwise clean your binoculars, dust off those field guides and get ready for the full might of fall migration!
