On May 8th 2018 my mom Faith was diagnosed with breast cancer. After a routine mammogram, doctors noticed a mass in her left breast. A biopsy was ordered and about a week later the results came back for Ductal carcinoma, stage 2.
Ductal carcinoma treatment options: The type of therapy selected may affect the likelihood of recurrence. Treating ductal carcinoma in situ with a lumpectomy (breast-conserving surgery) withoutradiation therapy carries a 25 – 35 percent chance of recurrence. Adding radiation therapy to the treatment decreases this risk to approximately 15 percent. Currently, the long-term survival rate for women with DCIS is nearly 100 percent.
As many of you close to my mom Faith may know, it has been a rough couple of years since her husband and My dad Dave had a heart attack. Following Dave's heart attack he was also put on dialysis for a few years because of a failing kidney.... before he could get a new kidney. Which thankfully the kidney came and the surgery went amazing and he is thriving. Dave had to leave his job at Eaton where he had great insurance benefits and a steady income because his body just hasn't been the same. But he is healthy.
My mom has spent her life caring for others, being a mom, grandma, wife and nurse to her husband. Always putting others before herself. She in the past couple of years started walking...I mean power walking! She does a few miles a day outside or on her treadmill. She wants to lead that healthy life, be a stronger woman. For herself and for her kids and grandkids. She inspires me to keep running everyday. "If my mom is out there doing it, so can I."
On May 22nd my mom will have a lumpectomy to remove the mass in her left breast. Because my mom doesnt have the best insurance the surgery along with her radiation will cost more than their insurance will cover. $6500.00 out of pocket .
I am coming to my mom and dads friends and family to ask for you to help in anyway possible. Even $1 makes a difference. Show your support for Faith, help her in her fight to hopefully be cancer free once all of this is over.
Thank you for your time.
Tracy
