Faith the Puppy

IMAGE WARNING

Friends,

A sweet puppy in urgent need of attention entered the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter. The images and details of this story are difficult to share, but it’s pets like Faith that bring the community of animal lovers together and helps the desire for Hays County to continue to push forward to become a “No Kill” city.

One-year-old Faith was found at the San Marcos Rio Vista Park on Monday, June 11, 2018 by a concerned citizen. She was extremely underweight, weak and in poor medical condition. She had no tags or microchip. Faith’s emaciated figure is heartbreaking and while we cannot completely confirm her background or experience there is a high probability that she became so malnourished at the hands of humans. Stray dogs typically can fend for themselves to some degree. They rummage for food that would keep them from this extreme starvation. Faith was taken to a vet, weighed in at 7 pounds and she is being monitored and tested to obtain a better understanding of what has happened to her.

Right now Faith is on a strict feeding schedule to avoid the danger of Refeeding Syndrome. We are working hard to obtain an experienced medical foster. As you can see in her pictures, Faith does not show any signs of aggression toward humans. She is sweet and accepting of kindness from humans despite the wrong that has been done to her. Faith will be monitored and cared for through the coming weeks as she is reintroduced to eating regularly. We’ll be keeping an eye on her progress as there may be additional difficulties that arise due to her level of nutrition abuse.

To help ensure that this young puppy gets the treatments she currently needs and may require ongoing, and that Faith has a chance of living out her life with love and happiness, please consider donating to Faith! As you know the SMRAS is doing all it can with the resources that it has but they need your help. 100% of your donation will go directly to Faith’s medical care and daily care.
