In early 2021, our sweet Caleigh was diagnosed with a one-in-a-million rare disorder called Short Telomere Biology Syndrome. This condition causes dangerous mutations that can lead to cancers and organ complications.
Doctors also discovered two genetic mutations—one of which has never been seen before.
Because this disorder is so rare, there is no cure at this time. It affects the lungs, liver, and bone marrow. Caleigh is now in bone marrow failure and will undergo a stem cell transplant. On October 3rd, she begins high-intensity chemotherapy, followed by her transplant, and she will need to remain in the hospital for about six weeks or longer.
Aubrey, Caleigh’s youngest sister, is stepping forward to donate and is a perfect match. We are so proud of her for taking this courageous and loving step. Her selfless act is giving Caleigh a chance to improve her quality of life and reminds us all of the incredible strength of family and love. Praise the Lord for this good news and for guiding us through this journey.
Despite this challenging journey, Caleigh’s faith has grown stronger than ever. She has leaned on the Lord for strength and peace, and her testimony has touched all of us. As 2 Corinthians 12:9 reminds us, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” We are clinging to God’s promises and trusting Him to carry Caleigh through.
While we continue to ask for prayers for healing and strength, we are also humbly asking for help to cover the many expenses insurance will not cover—hospital stays, specialized testing, chemotherapy, medications, and the loss of income while we walk through this with her.
