Myself and Garrett's other sister, Morgan Frerichs, have organized this fundraiser for Garrett and his wife, Reagan. We have asked Garrett to share his story on why we are starting this fundraiser:
Hello, thank you for visiting my Go Fund Me page! Two months ago I had just finished my first year of medical school. I was excited for summer to begin and was looking forward to getting married in late June to my incredible fiancé. The day after my final exam, I was found having a massive seizure. After I had been brought to the emergency department and stabilized, I was taken to imaging to receive an MRI which showed I had 3 brain bleeds. A week later, my family and I were hit with hard news, after further investigation some of the doctors found that the first brain bleed was caused by a brain tumor. A few weeks later, I had a surgery that took out 75% of the tumor. The other 25% was too close to important brain structures and could not be removed. Recovery has gone smoothly and the Lord has blessed us with continual growth of my physical strength and mental clarity.
More recently, through genetic testing, we have learned that my tumor is a very aggressive and rare grade 4 brain tumor. Learning this has been very difficult for my family and I, but there are many reasons to be optimistic. I have been referred to some excellent doctors in Nebraska, Minnesota, and California who have a lot of experience treating tumors like this one. I have recently started chemotherapy and radiation therapy, and will be partaking in a clinical trial tailored to this specific tumor type. With these treatments have come a lot of unexpected medical expenses, including expenses for travel extending to Mayo and likely California, lodging, transportation to various appointments, unexpected leave from work, etc. Any donations to help with these expenses are much appreciated. Words cannot explain how much your generosity means to my family and I! These donations will help to ease the financial burden for us during this difficult season of our lives.
The Lord has truly blessed us with such a wonderful community of people who are behind us during these hard times. Ultimately, we give the glory to God and praise Him for His goodness in the midst of these uncertainties, we know that His sovereign hands will continue to help lead us and guide us. Again, thank you so much for your generosity, it means the world to us!
We are aware that GoFundMe takes a 2.9% fee from each donation. If you would rather be able to give your full donation amount you can stop in and donate to "Garrett Lenners Benefit" account at any First State Bank Nebraska location.
