Meet the Dunn Family – Kayleigh, Ryan, and their beautiful baby girl, Lorelei.
At just four months old, Lorelei was diagnosed with an extremely rare genetic mutation called CACNA1E — a condition so uncommon that she’s only the 31st known case in the world. This mutation affects how her brain sends signals, leading to severe challenges most of us could never imagine.
Lorelei battles daily seizures that resist medication, as well as ongoing struggles with eating and sleeping. She works so hard in physical and occupational therapy multiple times each week. Doctors have told her family she may never walk or talk, and that her time here could be heartbreakingly short — yet through it all, Lorelei’s bright smile and joyful spirit continue to shine. Her strength is nothing short of miraculous.
Shortly after her diagnosis, Kayleigh’s husband suffered a serious back injury at work, leaving him unable to work for several months. Between his recovery, endless doctor appointments, and the long wait for state approval of Lorelei’s special needs insurance, Kayleigh had no choice but to step back from full-time work. She now works part-time when she can, balancing her career with being Lorelei’s full-time caregiver.
The Dunn family often travels from Waterford to the University of Michigan Hospital, sometimes staying overnight so Lorelei can receive the specialized care she needs. These trips — along with mounting medical bills, specialized equipment, and everyday expenses — have placed an enormous financial strain on their family.
Right now, we’re raising funds to help with:
Stem cell treatments that could one day change Lorelei’s life (estimated at over $30,000)
Medical bills and specialized equipment
Overnight stays near the hospital
And possibly a night nurse, so Kayleigh can rest while Lorelei continues to receive the care she needs around the clock
Kayleigh is one of the most selfless and compassionate people you’ll ever meet. She’s spent years pouring her heart into others — through her work, her friendships, and her community. Even in the face of unimaginable challenges, she continues to give. This holiday season, we want to give back to her and her family — to remind them that they are not alone, and that their community stands beside them.
Kayleigh, Ryan, and sweet Lorelei are the true definition of strength, love, and faith. If you’re able, please consider donating or sharing their story. Every prayer, every share, and every dollar makes a difference.
❤️ Let’s help bring some light and relief to the Dunn family this Christmas.
