A former seminarian and monastery resident, now battling multiple cancers and blindness in one eye after a brutal attack, has found temporary refuge under my care. His Christ-like humility inspires us all—please help provide medical care, shelter, and dignity for a troubled soul that the world has attacked.
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,During this holy season of Great Lent, when we are called to deepen our repentance, prayer, fasting, and acts of mercy, the Lord has placed a true witness of His love in my path.I met a homeless man who had once been a seminarian and lived temporarily in a monastery. For several years, he has wandered from place to place, relying on the limited generosity of strangers who crossed his path. He carries no bitterness—only quiet faith. What has struck me most deeply is his extraordinary humility and lack of complaint, even amid unimaginable torment. He didn't even speak of his afflictions; it was only when I gave him a hug that I discovered a huge tumor on his back. When I asked about his sufferings, he said quietly, "Since I entered the world, my torment begun." Yet he bears it all without murmur, offering only gentle words and Christ-like love. Over the past month, I have been blessed to provide him with food, shelter, clothing, and daily care. In that time, his health has deteriorated rapidly: he suffers from multiple cancers, has lost sight in one eye, and was brutally beaten while sleeping in a park by unknown assailants. Despite unimaginable suffering, he remains an angel among us.He speaks very quietly and always with kindness—even of those who mock him, shun him, or have spoken ill of him . Every word is rooted in Christ-like love. He is exceptionally knowledgeable, especially in theology, and wiser than most people I have ever encountered. In his gentle presence, I see the image of Christ crucified—humble, forgiving, and radiant with inner peace. As an Orthodox Christian, I believe we are commanded to care for "the least of these" (Matthew 25:40). Yet, I have now exceeded my own resources. The costs of medical evaluations, treatments, medications, proper shelter, nutrition, and basic dignity are beyond what I can manage alone. Without help, he faces returning to the streets in his frail condition. All funds raised will be used transparently and directly for: Emergency medical care and palliative support for his cancers and injuries
Safe, temporary housing or assisted living arrangements
Food, clothing, medications, and transportation to appointments
Any surplus will support similar acts of mercy for the vulnerable in our community, in keeping with Orthodox teachings on almsgiving
Your donation—however small—is a Lenten offering of love, a fulfillment of the corporal works of mercy, and a prayer in action. Together, we can ease his suffering and honor the Christ he so clearly reflects. As St. John Chrysostom reminds us: "The poor man is our rescuer... Through him, we receive forgiveness of sins." Let us rescue this brother in his hour of need. Please donate if you can, share this page widely (especially in Orthodox circles), and keep him in your prayers. May the Lord Jesus Christ, through the intercessions of the Most Holy Theotokos and all the saints, bless your generosity abundantly.
In Christ’s love, Branko Bojovic
