My Story: A Mother’s Fight for a Better Future

My name is Trissauna McGill, and I am a determined single mother of three beautiful children: Trisstan, Thaddaeus, and Tamira. Each of them is my heartbeat, my purpose, and the reason I wake up every day striving to push forward, even in the face of unimaginable hardship.

Becoming a mother shaped me in ways I never imagined. But nothing prepared me for the challenges that came with raising three children alone, especially after the birth of my youngest, Tamira, who was delivered via C-section. The recovery was painful, physically and emotionally, as I faced the healing process while trying to remain present and strong for my son and two daughters. Not long after, I lost my job, an event that sent our lives spiraling. With no income, limited support, and bills piling up, we found ourselves homeless. There were nights I lay awake praying in the dark, wondering how I would feed my children the next day or where we would sleep the following week.

Despite everything, I never gave up. I refused to let my children believe that struggle defined their story. I scraped together what I could, found full-time work, and leaned on faith and hope. Slowly, we began to rebuild.

Today, I’m proud to share that I’ve officially completed the Spring 2025 term, earning a 3.75 GPA. I am currently only three terms and 39 credit hours away from completing my Bachelor of Science in Public Health, a degree that I believe will not only elevate our lives but allow me to serve and empower others.

Education has been my anchor and my light, but the financial burden is overwhelming. I am currently paying tuition out of pocket, and despite working tirelessly, I simply cannot cover the remaining costs on my own.

This is more than just a plea for financial help. This is a declaration of my commitment. I am committed to finishing this degree. I am committed to giving my children a future that is brighter than my past. I am committed to walking across that graduation stage not only for myself, but for every mother who has been counted out, every child who has ever felt the weight of sacrifice, and every soul who dares to hope.

I need help to cross this finish line. Any financial assistance I receive will not be wasted. It will be a lifeline. It will be the bridge between survival and success, between a mother’s dream and a family’s reality.
