Faith and Wuby Need Our Help

Donation protected
Faith and Ruby have been inseparable since their first meeting.

Ruby was placed with Faith as her diabetic alert dog in August of 2010.  She was the lifesaver we'd prayed for months.  It was obvious from day one that they were meant for each other.

She stayed by Faith's side for 7 years, faithfully alerting us to dangerous high and low blood sugars in Faith's tiny body, before being retired to remain Faith's beloved pet.

Faith and Ruby were well-known service dog ambassadors, appearing on numerous TV, radio, and print interviews.  They even made international television when a news crew from Japan came to stay at our house for a day!

A few weeks ago, Ruby lost her appetite.  We tried many different things to entice her to eat.  We've taken her to the vet multiple times, gotten medicines, vitamins, supplements.  Despite promising bloodwork, her situation continues to deteriorate.

We got the news this morning that a mass was found near her kidney.  Ruby is not eating, and we are feeding her supplements and fluids by dropper and subcutaneously.  She does not appear to be in any pain, but is wasting away before our eyes.

The vet has advised that our only options are to do an ultrasound to determine what kind of mass we are dealing.  If it is determined that it can be surgically treated, she will need IV fluids to even strengthen her for surgery.

I sat Faith down today and told her what we were looking at, and explained to her that we needed to prepare ourselves to say goodbye.

Faith understands all that Ruby has done for her over the years.  She knows she is alive and healthy because of Ruby's faithful service.  We talked about the fact that we can't be selfish, and must let Ruby go if it is what is best for her.

Faith understands more about life and death and health than any one little girl should.  After we had a good cry, she asked me if we would just do one more thing by getting an ultrasound by another vet to make sure there was nothing more we could do for Ruby.  She doesn't want her to suffer, but also doesn't want to give up on her if there is something we can do for her.

I want to be able to give her this peace of mind, but we have about exhausted our financial resources at this point getting Ruby repeated treatment these past couple weeks.  If it is determined that Ruby's mass can be treated surgically, she will need IV fluids to strengthen her for surgery.  The cost of this treatment is outside of our budget, but we feel Ruby-Doo and Faith are worth it.  Dad will be working extra days, and mom will be doing things to raise extra money, but we need your help.

A GoFundMe is something I never thought I would be doing, but I feel I owe it to Faith and Sweet Ru to do everything I can to help them close this chapter with peace.

Any amount you can help with will be greatly appreciated, and any extra amount that we raise will be saved for Faith when she's ready to find Ruby's successor.

Thank you,

Faith and Ruby's Mom
