This fund raiser has been set up on behalf of Faith and Gary Beavers to help with medical expenses. Faith has Cystic Fibrosis and has been hospitalized since December of 2019, with end stage renal failure, liver failure, and bedridden from necrosis in her feet. Faith’s father, Gary has been hospitalized for weeks in a different hospital across town after suffering two heart attacks. During procedure to remove a blood clot in his leg, his heart stopped, and he had to be resuscitated several times. He is now in critical condition on a Ventilator in the ICU. Because of the COVID shutdowns, no one is allowed into the ICU to see Gary. These COVID shutdowns have been absolutely detrimental, as the family has been separated for months, with both daughter and father in critical condition at separate hospital fighting for their lives.
Many of you have reached out asking for ways to help. We are so thankful for any support you may be able to provide. We serve a mighty God and we put our faith in Him, as we pray for miracles of healing for both Gary and Faith.
Summary of their story is below:
Gary has been hospitalized numerous times since March with various health problems. In June, he suffered a heart attack. The doctor placed 4 stents in his heart and tried to open up some blockages. Within a matter of days of being discharged after the first heart surgery, he was readmitted, suffering another heart attack, all the stents had clotted off. This 2nd heart attack was worse, and weakened his heart even more, now functioning at only 25%.He also had an injury to his foot in May, and through numerous hospital stays, it was never treated. It became infected, and at some point he developed a massive blood clot in his leg that clotted off blood flow to his foot. Without proper blood flow, the infection led to Osteomyelitis (infection in bones) in which he now has gangrene and necrosis. The doctors decided to try and remove this large blood clot in his leg to restore blood flood to his injured foot and leg, unfortunately because of his weakened heart, Gary coded during the procedure, having to be resuscitated and is now in the ICU, on a ventilator in critical condition.
Faith’s story began 26 years ago. Born two months premature, with Cystic fibrosis, and Meconium ileus that caused a ruptured bowel, Faith was given her name before she was rushed into emergency surgery at birth. The doctors removed 75% of her small intestines as they were gangrenous. They said she didn’t have enough remaining intestines to sustain life. She was given less than 5% chance of survival. But God had other plans and Faith is a fighter! Faith and her mom spent the next 2 years living in the hospital more than home. Amy learned all that she could medically to care for Faith, so that Faith could spend as much time as possible at home, whether it was mixing and administering IV antibiotics and Parenteral nutrition, or drip feedings, accessing catheters, changing out feeding Tubes, doing various breathing treatments, chest percussion therapy, oxygen and on and on.
Even so, Cystic Fibrosis is a cruel disease and Faith endured hundreds of hospitalizations, surgeries, and procedures over the years. In the spring of 2012, it became necessary for Faith & Amy to move to Houston to await a double lung transplant. Faith was blessed with a life saving transplant on December 9, 2012. Unfortunately, many complications arose over the following years, from CMV virus from her donor lungs, going completely blind for awhile,an emergency hysterectomy, and heart issues, just to name a few.
In 2016, a devastating multi-gastrointestinal bacterial infection lead to chronic dehydration and kidney damage and began the downward spiral of the kidneys. Faith was listed for a live donor kidney transplant and was successful in finding a match, however doctors insisted she gain weight and get stronger before they’d do the transplant. While waiting, in fall of 2019, her kidneys crashed and she had to begin emergency dialysis. Two failed fistulas surgeries led to devastating consequences including necrosis in her feet and toes and blood clots in her arm. After going to 3 different hospitals hoping to save her feet/toes, the Covid shutdowns happened and the hospital where they had been for over a month didn’t allow Amy to stay with Faith. Faith was separated from her family with no visitors allowed for 7 weeks. This separation proved to be near fatal, with many mistakes made & things neglected, Faith lost more than 25% of her body weight and suffered acute liver injury and necrosis in her feet became worse. The nightmare for Faith has continued, with Faith being admitted to 3 different hospitals attempting to save her feet, her liver, and ultimately her life.
She has continued to decline, remains critical in the hospital on COVID lockdown with her mom. Getting weaker by the day, time drawing near, the family is faced with tough decisions. As she is bedridden, normal outpatient dialysis is not an option. The family is trying to establish a way to take Faith home, so they can spend much needed time together. Trying to find a way to do at-home Hemodialysis, which is not covered by her insurance as well as begin an experimental treatment that is also not covered by her insurance company. It is very expensive, costing thousands per treat-ment and will require numerous, ongoing sessions. This is our last hope.
Although Faith has medical insurance, the large yearly deductibles, co-payments, expensive monthly insurance premiums, prescriptions and treatments not covered have really added up. Gary does not have insurance at this time.
We understand that these are hard times for everyone, but many of you have reached out asking for ways to help. As we struggle through these turbulent times, we are so thankful for any support you may be able to provide.
We serve a mighty God and we put our faith in Him, as we pray for miracles of healing for both Gary and Faith.
