Fairmont Youth Center
The Town of Fairmont owns a 4,164 square foot building donated for the purpose of a youth center that will operate during periods when children are not in school. The mission of the town in providing a venue for after-school and out-of-school activities is to ensure that there are opportunities for youth to excel, explore and expand their horizons before school, after school, on weekends, and during the summer. We seek to provide the children of the Fairmont area with focused numeracy, technological, and literacy integration into academic and enrichment activities.
The Youth Center building was donated to the Town in December of 2017 and since that time the Town has repaired the roof (at the back of the building and exterior walls including the windows), cleaned the building up and installed a completely new HVAC system (the building is split zone, and therefore required a dual system). All of the aforementioned rehabilitation was accomplished at a cost of $50,000 over a period of two years. Due to the recent hurricane, the town is seeking donations because an additional $60,000 is needed to complete the work and obtain an occupancy permit. Costs are outlined below for the remainder of the work needed:
Repair of walls and ceiling: $10,000
Replace Flooring and repair trim: $18,000
Electrical: $ 2,000
Furnishings: Tables, Chairs, Etc.: $30,000
Total: $60,000
Once the Center is completed and ready for occupancy, the town will advertise for a non-profit that has a proven track record and a holistic approach to child and family development to operate it.
