A Special Message for Our Donors: Fairfield Ludlowe Rocketry Club Competes At National Finals on May 18, 2019 (please keep scrolling to see all of our amazing pics!)
The Fairfield Ludlowe Rocketry Club traveled to Virginia this month to represent FLHS at the national finals of the Team America Rocketry Challenge, the world’s largest student rocket contest. Out of the 101 teams that competed, Fairfield Ludlowe placed 48th in the country and 1st in Connecticut! Not bad considering this is only the club’s second year at Ludlowe.
Thanks to club members' fundraising efforts and all of you who donated here, the club was able to stage the multiple rocket launches needed to meet the daunting criteria that qualified them for the national finals. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR DONATION. The team did a great job and had so much fun on their trip!
This year’s contest, themed around the upcoming 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, challenged students to design, build and fly a rocket carrying three raw eggs in a capsule to an altitude of 856 feet and then return it to ground with the eggs intact within 43-46 seconds. If your eggs break, that's it -- you're disqualified and don't place anywhere in the finals. Needless to say, Ludlowe's eggs made their way safely back to earth. The flight delivered impressive results on other criteria as well. The kids also got to meet industry leaders in attendance, including reps from Raytheon, Boeing, Lockheed, Aerojet, and Northrup, just to name a few.
Congratulations to all Fairfield Ludlowe Rocketry Club members, especially those who attended the finals this month. They are pictured front row from left to right: Yujia Feng, Arman Ajoomal and Sean Haughton. Back row: Dr. Jessica Davis-Peineke (advisor), William Allen, Rushil Mallarapu, Chris Ryan, and Patricio Salomon-Mir.

Thanks go out again to FLHS teachers, Dr. Jessica Davis-Peineke (the club’s advisor) and Mr. Richard Strid (3D printing/thrash metal advisor), and to Mr. David Greenapple, the club’s official TARC mentor. The team's performance this year is a testament to Mr. Greenapple's great coaching skills. They learned so much from him. Can’t wait to see what this incredible club does next year!
Would your student like to join the Fairfield Ludlowe Rocketry Club? Just swing by Dr. Davis’ class in 214 Mondays or Thursdays after school to see what the club is all about.
