Fairen’s Fight-Help Lift the Burden of Eagle Syndrome

Donation protected
In March 2023, Fairen suffered two falls on ice, triggering debilitating symptoms—severe head pressure, nerve pain, extreme fatigue, vision disturbances, and heart complications. For nearly two years, doctors couldn’t pinpoint the cause. Finally, she was diagnosed with Eagle Syndrome, a rare condition where an elongated bone compresses major blood vessels, risking permanent vision loss and even stroke.

On February 11, 2025, Fairen underwent surgery to remove the bone, but complications arose. She faced severe pain, breathing issues, and alarming “stroke-like” episodes that baffled medical staff. Despite her family’s constant advocacy, critical tests and treatments were delayed. It took nearly two weeks of suffering before doctors discovered her jugular vein had completely collapsed, depriving her brain of oxygen and affecting her heart. She was rushed to another hospital for an emergency angioplasty, which helped restore blood flow. But a third surgery is still a possibility but we won't know until her follow up scans.

Now home, Fairen is unable to work, constantly supervised, and facing a long, uncertain recovery. She still struggles with nerve damage, speech impairment, mobility issues, and cognitive challenges. Her husband, Mike, has been put off on a medical sick leave himself as well, leaving the family with two reduced incomes.

We are asking for your support to help ease the burden of medical expenses, lost income, and ongoing rehabilitation costs. Any contribution, big or small, will help Fairen focus on healing and being there for her 5-year-old daughter.

The brain needs to relearn and reacclimate which can take several months with therapy leaving her without license and without income. Home care supports will come into the home as she cannot be left unsupervised for fear a neurological episode could happen at any time.
Weakness to right side, paralysis to right lower lip, speech delays, brain fog and mental and emotional fatigue.

Fairen is PT on EI but unfortunately her EI will end in 3 weeks time leaving her without any income while applying for CPP disability which is very limited income.

Thank you for your love, generosity, and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
