On September 21, Concetta was admitted to the hospital with sever stomach pain and bleeding. She was not able to go to the bathroom either. After cat scans, x-rays, and MRI's, what was believed to be a simple UTI (Urinary Tract Infections) or some other infection, treatable by antibiotics, results had said other-wise. Turns out she had a golf-ball sized tumor in her bladder along with a failed kidney. Doctors told her that a tumor on the bladder at the young age of 47 was very rare because it is usually seen in women in their 60's-80's. During her week in the hospital, Concetta received two procedures. The first was to put a drain in her working kidney to prevent it from possibly erupting during her main procedure. During the second procedure, which was to remove the tumor, doctors found that it was enitrely too big to be removed (it lines the whole bottom layer of her bladder) and had already spread to her uterus. They sent samples from the tumor our for a biopsy and when the results came back, they were positive for cancer. Concetta is now scheduled for months of chemotherapy. Once the cancer has been stabilized, the doctors will need to remove her bladder and uterus. Though battling cancer is something Concetta and her loved one's will have to do everyday. She is facing this war with great positivity and hope. With that being said, she has a long road ahead of her consisting of chemicals, surgery and doctors visits; she is self-employed and to date does not have health insurance. The medical bills for her first hospital visit alone are staggering, and in coming months will only continue to rise. We appreciate any and all support.
