Support for Mom's Unexpected Surgery Recovery

We really hate to have to ask for help, but unfortunately, this was something very unexpected.

For those of you that don't know, my mom went in for a hiatal hernia surgery Monday. What started out to be a pretty simple surgery (that has been put off for a while now) with just one night in the hospital turned into the following.

Medical Findings:
Ventral hernia, extensive adhesions of the small intestine to the abdominal wall, omentum to abdominal wall, and stomach to liver and abdominal wall.

Doctors attempted laparoscopic entry into the abdomen in the left and right upper quadrant, but they were not able to find a clear safe space. They attempted lysis of adhesions (removal of scar tissue), but this could not be done safely. They then made a midline abdominal incision and opened the abdomen. They found a different kind of hernia that was supposed to be taken care of at a later date. However, it was so severe they had to take care of it now. Extensive lysis of adhesions (removal of scar tissue) was performed for over an hour, clearing all of the small bowel adhesions. They were not able to find a space to get near the diaphragm to fix the hiatal hernia, so this will need to be removed in a future surgery. A Blake drain was placed in the sub-Q, which will be in for 14 days, and the incisions were closed with staples.

This situation is now creating an extreme financial burden as ALL PTO is being used through Thursday, and then short-term disability is only paying 60%. And mom's second job has no benefits, and unfortunately, she'll need to be off that job for 2 months due to lifting restrictions. So due to this, there will be no way to pay rent, insurance, car, and buy groceries. Our main concern is us being evicted, not having heat and electric, and not having a vehicle, amongst a few other necessities.

Initially, if the planned hiatal surgery happened, she would have gone back to work one week post-op, and now doctors are not sure.

All of this is mentally beyond comprehension due to the sudden decision of switching surgeries, hospital stay as we're not sure when she'll be discharged and when she'll be able to return to work.

We appreciate ALL the prayers, support, and any help you can give. No amount is too small and so appreciated. Thank you so much.
