On New Years' weekend, Diane was not feeling well; she went to the urgent care walk-in and tested positive for influenza A and double ear infections. After struggling with high fevers and with no relief, she ended up in the er. Diane's white blood cell count was low, as well as platelets and hemoglobin. After transferring to the hospital for a blood transfusion, the doctors discovered she had Leukemia and a nasty Staph infection on the muscle in her left hip. Once there was a room available, she was transported to Moffitt Cancer Center, where she currently is. She received 7 days of chemotherapy and is on a 6-week course of antibiotics for the Staff infection. Now she has to regain her strength. There will be a biopsy to determine the next steps. Anyone who knows Diane well knows that her fear and anxiety around anything medical are exaggerated. We’re still trying to process this life-changing event; Diane has not seen Lucas since January 8th, except with FaceTime. We have been so blessed and overwhelmed with the outpouring of love, support and prayers over Diane’s recent diagnosis; please continue sending all the prayers because she can feel them helping. We created this page to help with the cost of our living and everyday expenses, so if you feel inclined to help, you can do so here. Blood and platelet donations are needed everywhere. Locally in the Tampa area, you can make a targeted blood or platelet donation of O positive or O negative direct to Diane Wiggins through Lifesouth Community Blood Bank. www.lifesouth.com The doctors at Moffitt are very hopeful that Diane will make a full recovery, but the road will be long. We will continue to provide updates. Thank you and love you all.
