Help the Aburamadan Family Evacuate From Gaza

Donation protected
Hi, I am Mustafa Abu Ramadan. My youngest brother's host family and I are working together to get my family in Gaza to safety in Egypt. I wrote this to express my sorrow and concern for my family:
"As I sit here, just a few kilometers away from my family, the weight of helplessness presses down on me like a heavy stone. Allow me to share with you the story of my family, the family of Dr. Wael, a family that has known hardship intimately, yet always persevered until now.

Dr. Wael, my father, devoted over forty years of his life to saving others as a surgeon at Al-Shifa Hospital. His expertise once brought solace to those in pain, but now his weary soul is burdened by the trials of war and adversity. My mother, Eman, who devoted her life to raise six children while working tirelessly as a teacher, shaping young minds in the midst of chaos.

My siblings, each with their own aspirations, have faced relentless obstacles in their pursuit of a better life. Mohammed, Bashar, Basel, Ola – their names linked with the echoes of shattered dreams. They studied, they worked, they hoped, only to have their efforts dashed by the cruel hand of war.

And then there's Sarah, the youngest among us, her bright future overshadowed by uncertainty. As her elder brother, it pains me beyond measure to know that she, along with the rest of my family, is trapped in a cycle of suffering from which there seems to be no escape.

I am Mustafa, the one who managed to leave before the storm engulfed us all. But with each passing day, the guilt gnaws at me, knowing that my loved ones endure hardships I can hardly bear to imagine. They lack the most basic necessities – water, food, medicine – while the specter of violence lurks ever closer. Their shelter, constantly shifting in a desperate quest for safety, offers little respite from the relentless turmoil.

Electricity is a luxury they can scarcely afford, and they must resort to burning wood for warmth as the chill of the night sets in. The flickering flames cast long shadows over their weary faces, a stark reminder of the fragility of their existence.

I have tried everything within my power to bring them to safety, but the barriers are too high, the obstacles too daunting. Now, the only ray of hope lies in crossing the Rafah border, a journey fraught with danger and uncertainty. Yet, even this slim chance comes with a price – a price my family cannot afford. The sum needed to secure their escape amounts to $35,000, a seemingly insurmountable obstacle in their path to safety and a better future.

That's why I turn to you, with a heart heavy with despair but still clinging to hope. Your support, your generosity, could be the lifeline my family so desperately needs. With your help, we can reunite, we can rebuild, and we can reclaim the joy that has been stolen from us by the ravages of war.

Please, help Dr. Wael's family. Help us break free from this nightmare that has held us captive for far too long. Your compassion could be the difference between despair and hope, between darkness and light. Stand with us in our darkest hour, and together, we can write a new chapter of resilience, of renewal, of redemption."

Hi, we are the Lushers, Leonard and Inge, we live in California, USA, and are fundraising to assist the Abu Ramadans, a family of 7, to evacuate from Gaza to Egypt. In 2014 their youngest son Basel (first young man on the right wearing a striped shirt) came to live with us through a Student Exchange Program. We've stayed in touch all these years. His family are good, peaceful people caught in this nightmare they're living at this time. His family consists of father Wael, 73; mother Eman, 56; sister Sarah, 12; brother Bashar, 28; sister Ola, 29; and Mohammed, 33. Mustafa, their other brother, lives in Egypt. We are their only hope to raise the funds they need. The family has a chance to escape but it's ridiculously expensive. They can evacuate through an organization that required $5000/person, (which has now increased to $6000 effective April 14, 2024), to add their names to a daily updated document of people who are legally permitted to enter Egypt. I've raised some funds a few months ago and sent the money to Basel's brother Mustafa in Egypt to use for visas through another country, but after thorough investigation that option was not viable. Mustafa is trying very hard to get his family to Egypt and needs assistance. His family can not afford these exorbitant fees. Basel and his family are currently outside of Rafah. His fiancé and her family died in an airstrike. He is devastated over her loss. The family is constantly moving, barely sleep, are lucky if they eat once a day. Conditions that are unimaginable! Internet reception is very sporadic, and we are always grateful when we receive word they are still alive.
Please donate, if you're willing and able, so they can get to safety. Any amount WILL help, $5, $10, or $1000, and is so appreciated!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Update from Inge: To date (3/20/24) we have raised $1100.00 which isn't nearly enough to reach our goal but we are SO grateful to all who have donated! The people in Rafah are growing more desperate each day. With all the volatility in the region we don't know what the future will hold for Basel and his family. But we have faith that a miracle will happen and that, together, we will get them to safety in Egypt.

Update 4/14/24:
The price per person to leave Gaza to Egypt has increased to $6000.00 per person. Basel and family are still alive and have moved from Rafah to another place nearby to be out of harms way, as far as that is possible. They are very anxious but still hopeful that they will be able to leave. Mustafa is desperate to be reunited with his family and worries constantly about his parents who are not well.

The $50,000.00 break down as follows:
7 people at $6000 each - $42,000.00
Travel Expenses - $8,000.00

Images of their neighborhood - their own home is 70% damaged and uninhabitable.
