Help Jonathan Fight Acute Kidney Failure

Donation protected
After battling multiple acute and chronic health issues for well over a year, a period preceded by 15 years of being a caregiver to my father, brother, and mother, I realized that I need to ask for your help, however difficult it is for me to do so.

It turns out that I have a litany of serious issues that have limited my mobility, adversely impacted my sleep and diet, and compromised my vision. This year I learnt that I am suffering from acute renal failure, something that was diagnosed five months after it began to manifest itself and wreak havoc on my life – and the expenses as a result of my medical issues are in excess of $25,000.

Between the treatments and the actual medical issues, I am greatly fatigued, have difficulty remembering things, have suffered an extensive decrease in my attention span, have limited appetite, have endured more weight loss than I’d like or that would be recommended, and have difficulty seeing. The fatigue and malaise brought on by the acute renal failure have made me partially bedridden and rob me of half the waking hours in a day.

Before this all happened, I spent over a decade as a caregiver for my late father, who had Alzheimer’s Disease; served in the same role for my late mother, a kidney transplant recipient who had polycystic kidney disease (PKD); and then helped with the care of my beloved younger brother, Greg, who also also succumbed to PKD. In addition, over the course of two decades, I took out loans to support costs relating to my family’s care that today have come back to haunt me.

Indeed, after being a caregiver for so long, I never stopped to consider what would happen if something were to happen to me.

Now that I am seriously ill, there’s no one left to care for me.

Before the pandemic, I was the editor-in-chief of a travel magazine, which flipped to covid and travel/covid coverage in January 2020. The almost complete halt in travel decimated the magazine financially, and what little way I had to earn a living ended with the onset of the acute renal failure.

My mother always said I that looked at the world through rose-colored glasses, and I steadfastly refuse to stop doing so now. I’ve resisted asking for help, but I cannot let stubborn pride stand in the way of rebuilding my body and my life.

I am slowly being treated, but the damage is done. As a result of the effects of the symptoms I experienced due to renal failure, I was unable to attend to a number of financial matters and now need at least $25,000 to even begin to undo the damage.

Thank you, and even if you can’t make a financial contribute, please share this with friends and via social media, moves which also carry great import.

While I’ve never felt comfortable asking for help, I always try to acknowledge someone’s kindness, so thank you and danke schön for your support. I plan to come through this better than new and carry everyone’s goodwill to me forward.
