Hello, my name is Ron Nycum. I have two daughters and three grandchildren. After spending much of my adult life battling addiction, I finally got clean on December 13, 2017. Since then, I’ve graduated from rehab and started as a volunteer at the Humane Society of North Central Florida. On January 2, 2021, I became a Thrift Associate, a role that has brought me immense joy and fulfillment.
In 2019, my battle with cancer and vascular issues began. I’ve undergone multiple surgeries, including a femoral-to-femoral bypass on my left leg in 2019 and a bypass on my right leg in early 2022. Despite facing challenges like MRSA infections and numerous surgeries, I’ve continued to work and find happiness in helping others. Sadly, on August 14, 2023, I lost my leg, and now I’m gearing up for my third round of radiation and chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer. Throughout these trials, the thrift store and the incredible community I’ve found there have been my motivation and support.
However, the journey has been made even more challenging by insurance issues. They have continuously thrown roadblocks in my way, leading to an unexpected and much higher co-pay that I now need to cover, ultimately delaying what my doctors deem to be a life-saving treatment. This added financial strain is overwhelming, and I am desperately seeking support to manage these costs.
I am incredibly grateful to everyone who has donated to my GoFundMe so far. Your generosity has been a lifeline, helping me cover medical expenses and continue my journey toward recovery. As I face the next round of treatments, I humbly ask for your continued support. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a significant impact on my ability to maintain my quality of life and keep working in a job I love. If you’re unable to donate, your well-wishes are equally appreciated. Thank you, and God bless.
