Facing Job Loss and Lymphoma: We Need Your Help
Donation protected
I've been trying to find a way to make sense of all of this, but it's not easy…
On May 2nd, I unexpectedly lost my job, just 10 months into a 12-month probation. This meant no explanation and no severance. My small family—my spouse, two kitties, and I—were relying on that income and our modest savings.
As if that wasn't enough, the very next day, May 3rd, I went to the ER for the third time in two months for a persistent, worsening cough. Finally, they found the cause: a large mass in my chest. Lymphoma.
To top it all off, a critical surgery two weeks ago damaged a vocal nerve, impairing my ability to speak. I'm optimistic I will regain my voice in time, but it certainly felt like the final blow. My wife even dyed my hair some fun colors before I lose it to chemo – we're finding strength and joy together amidst all of this, as much as we can.
Our Current Situation
Just two months into this journey, our funds are critically low. I'm incredibly fortunate to have insurance, and my prognosis is positive, but this battle will take time.
Living expenses are coming in fast and strong, and it's overwhelming. My spouse is now caring for me full-time, driving me to appointments in our 200,000+ mile car, often traveling 100 miles each way. Our savings are completely exhausted, and we're now in danger of losing our home. On top of all of that, my spouse's income is capped to ensure I don't lose my essential health insurance, but the cap doesn't even cover our rent.
How You Can Help
If you're able to help, even $10 or $20 would make an immense difference as we navigate this challenging time. Thankfully, donations don't impact my insurance or our income cap. Anything you can contribute means a lot to us. Even if you're unable to donate, simply lighting a candle and sending us your good thoughts and positive energy would be a tremendous help.
