My brother in law, Tristan has had a rough string of luck lately.
You may have heard the on the news (see The Daily Advertiser article or Fire and Rescue Turvey Park's post) that a blaze recently tore through a local home while the residents could do little more than watch while local firefighters battled the flames. This was the latest and most catastrophic event in a string of bad luck that you'd have to live through to believe it. If you're that way inclined, you might even believe he's cursed.
Tristan is a devoted father of three, and stepfather to an additional three children that he dedicates his life to. He's now devastated that he has been left unable to provide one of the most basic necessities for his family, shelter and a safe refuge to call home. He has always done his utmost to ensure that his children's lives aren't something to survive, but something to be enjoyed, cherishing the moments and creating memories.
Following a motorcycle accident (not at fault), and a subsequent fall from a truck, Tristan has suffered many injuries in recent history (I personally wonder if he's going for the Guinness World record for broken bones). He's already undergone surgery to his back earlier this year, following an extended period of chronic pain and a battle to even have his agony addressed. Not even an hour before the blaze ignited his home, he received further news that he's facing down the barrel of needing hip reconstruction for both joints. One might be led to believe that he's getting a bit long in the tooth to face the frailty and pain he experiences, but he's only 38!
Now he's facing the real possibility of homelessness.
The inability to secure an income due to his injuries and relentless pain, coupled with the cost of living crisis, hard decisions had to be made and unfortunately home insurance didn't pass the muster when the choice was between food on the table, or a just-in-case policy no one ever hopes they'll need.
I'm turning to you in hopes that you can spare a little to help Tristan secure accommodation, furniture, and necessities such as clothing and toiletries in the efforts to rebuild a life for not just himself, but his family. The keepsakes he has lost will be gone forever, but with your support, I hope to ease his fears of a cold winter sleeping in a car or couch hopping, and in turn give him hope of stability for his loved ones. I know that we're all doing it tough right now, but anything will help.
Thank you, and please keep Tristan in your thoughts in the coming weeks.
