Face The World

About the Project:
Face the World is a short film written by Johnny Reyna for his thesis project at California State University Monterey Bay. Face the World brings exposure to the trials and tribulations that many people of color face due to our broken justice system. The main character Javier is on parole and has been employed at a local auto body shop with the help of his cousin Gustavo who also works there. Russ, the owner, does not trust or like either of them, he only hired Javier out of necessity. Gustavo’s actions constantly puts the both of them in an uneasy place with Russ, and through this, a strain on Javier’s and Gustavo’s relationship is raised.

This short is inspired by Reyna's last short film, "Been Down" a short about trying to find employment as a person who has been incarcerated in the past. Which can be watched here: https://youtu.be/22XhUoTMtU4

From the Writer/Director Johnny Reyna:
The main goal of making this film is to represent the stories of the people that society forgets exist.  My entire life I've felt like I don't fit in anywhere in the world and that's because the stories of the people I knew, and the people who looked like me were never told, let alone shown in the media I consumed. I hope with my skills, and talent I can dedicate my life to putting the stories of people like me on screen and beyond.

About the Writer Director:
Johnny Reyna was born and raised in San Jose California. He started making music videos for himself, then soon moved to creating music videos for other people. When his first mentor introduced him to the world of freelance, he also taught him how to think outside of the box, and always remain driven. With those skills, Johnny has been creating video content since late 2012. Having created video content for artists like E-40, to businesses like Jackson Rancheria Resort & Casino, he has been able to develop a strong knowledge and creative approach to the craft of cinematic arts. Now looking to reach beyond commercial work, Johnny Reyna is writing and shooting his own shorts about people of color, and other marginalized groups in hopes to change the face of popular media in todays world. https://www.instagram.com/johnatomos/
